Rick’s introduction to construction began at the age of 12, when he spent weekends and school holidays working alongside his father, whose construction company refurbished council houses for local councils. This early, hands-on experience gave him a grounding in the building trade and sparked an interest that would become his career.

With more than three decades of experience, Rick has worked across a wide range of roles, developing extensive practical knowledge and project management expertise. As a Contracts Manager, he managed up to 20 projects and 200 people at a time, working alongside prestigious architectural practices and clients. This experience taught him how to coordinate busy teams, navigate complex requirements and understand the individual needs of each project.

Today, Rick brings that knowledge to his role as Managing Director of Richard James Buildings. He places quality workmanship, clear communication and strong working relationships at the heart of the business, taking pride in understanding each client’s vision and working closely with his team to bring it to life.

Dean has worked in construction for 25 years, having joined the industry straight from school. He and Rick have worked together for 16 years, including the past six years working for Rick.

As Site Manager, Dean brings experience in managing multiple sites and a practical, approachable style. He enjoys getting to know our clients, listening to their ideas and explaining the building process so they feel informed and involved throughout their project.

Dean values working with a like-minded team and appreciates the care Rick shows towards others. Outside work, he enjoys motorcycle track days and racing, as well as spending time with his family. He has been married for 33 years and has two adult children and six grandchildren.

Simon began his career in roofing before moving into general construction, developing a broad range of practical skills along the way. At Richard James Buildings, he supports day-to-day site operations, with particular strengths in groundworks and a keen interest in demolition and refurbishment projects.

He enjoys working with and alongside Rick, learning from his experience and sharing his own knowledge with the team and clients.

Outside work, Simon enjoys getting out on his motorcycle. He and his partner have been together for 12 years and have six children.

Carrie recently joined Richard James Buildings as Personal Assistant to Managing Director Rick, supporting the day-to-day organisation and administration of the business. Her role includes communicating with clients and suppliers, coordinating schedules, and helping with marketing, social media and business development.

With a background in office management and executive support, Carrie brings strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a friendly, practical approach. She enjoys building relationships with clients, contractors and colleagues.
